Gerry joined the CV umpires’ panel in 2006 and has umpired a total of 276 Premier matches. Prior to joining the CV Panel, Gerry spent one season umpiring in the Victorian Sub-District Cricket Association after a twenty-year absence from the game due to family and business commitments.

Gerry is a life member of the VCAUSA and has served on the Committee of Management as Treasurer for four years, President for two years, Vice-President for two years and as Secretary for the past five years. Gerry is also passionate about the biennial Easter Exchange with SACUSA and has been the Easter convenor since 2011. After 42 years of working life, he retired in July 2022 and now has more time for cricket and other interests. Gerry is married to Sylvie and has two children.

The 2022-23 season will again present plenty of challenges for cricket administrators and Gerry is confident that the committee of management is ready and willing to represent the members in the season ahead.

Jeff Diamond-Smith

Treasurer

JeffD-S.jpg

Jeff's love affair with cricket started a long time ago. remembering waking up in the middle of the night and hiding under the bed to listen to the ABC broadcast of either the Ashes or the West Indies tour, on his transistor radio. Jeff had an underwhelming career on the field as a right-hand, opening batsman and a left-arm Chinaman bowler. and made a couple of centuries but J Grade on the mats isn’t exactly the MCG! When family commitments and a bad back curtailed a floundering career, Jeff decided that he wanted to stay involved and took up umpiring. He spent 11 seasons with the VTCA officiating in 10 Grand Finals and met such luminaries such as Paul Jensen and Bob Parry. At the end of the 2006-7 season Jeff decided to further his umpiring career and joined the Cricket Victoria panel and he is still enjoying it 15 years later. He gets great support from his wife, Leanne, and three children, who are all now in their 20s, and who know that their father won’t be around the house in Summer on a Saturday and the occasional Sunday. Upon retirement, Jeff took up volunteer work, under the guidance of Alan McCarthy, and tour guiding at the MCG. He is now hoping to use his experience to assist on the Committee of Management of the VCAUSA.

Dan Bomford

Committee Member

Bomford4.jpg

Dan joined the CV umpires panel in 1979 and has umpired 667 matches across all Premier and VWCA grades. Dan is a member of the prestigious CV 200 Club and is one of three members of the Panel to have exceeded 600 Premier (or higher level) games although in Dan’s case these have all been Premier games, the majority of which have been in First Grade.

Dan has served the Association in the roles of Secretary (ten seasons, 1985-6 to 1987-8 and 2010-11 to 2016-17), Treasurer (12 seasons,

1983-84, 1984-85 and 1993-94 to 2002-03), Vice-President (five seasons, 2005-06 to 2009-10) and has been a Committee Member for the past five seasons. He was awarded Life Membership of the Association in 1989.

Dan and wife Bernadette enjoy their family life with three children and seven grandchildren and somehow Dan still finds the time for his “other loves,” running half marathons and goal umpiring during the “off-season.”
